Why No MSG
It started with a little girl who couldn’t safely eat the food on her own family’s table.
Long before Silver Spur had a name, our founder’s dad was already feeding people. He started a catering business at 18, serving food at rodeos, fairs and community events, and grew it into restaurants of his own.
His daughter, our founder, had a severe allergy to MSG. Eating it meant fevers as high as 104 degrees and days on the couch, too sick to speak. Most commercial seasonings back then contained it, so she couldn’t safely eat the food her own dad served.
So he changed that. He stopped relying on commercial blends and started making his own seasonings from scratch, so she could eat the same meals as everyone else. Those blends went on to season the food across his restaurants and catering business.
That’s where Silver Spur comes from. Our founder grew up in those kitchens, and the blends we make today carry on what her dad started.
